My aha moment comes from my observation that I had with a student. I had a chance to work with student that is behind on both reading and math. The student and I were working together to review for a upcoming math test. I know that this students was struggling with perimeter, area and composite figure. The student and I worked on a problem for finding area of a square and walked through the problem step by step. I did give this child a chance to figure out the answer. After he got the answer the teacher asked who had the answer. The student raised their hand, explained how he or she got the answer, and got a chance to clip up. The smile on this child;s face and the funny dance that was done just brought joy to my heart. This kids aha moment made me have mine because I question if I'm going to be good teacher. In that small moment it brought me back to one if reason why I wanted to become a teacher in the first place.
The lesson that the class had on educational technology has introduced me to to new tools that I can't wait to look into more to see what once that I would like to use. I really enjoyed the yoteachapp where I got see the pictures from class. I also had a chance to work on webjets and it like a virtual bulletin board that allows to keep everything organized and can be shared with others. I really loved this class this week because I learned so much.
Great post! I love watching students have the aha moment. I call it the lightbulb moment because sometimes it feels like you can see the light starting to flicker then it fully comes on for a kid and you know they truly grasp what they just learned.
ReplyDeleteI worked with the equity map app and you should definitely check it out! Its really interesting when you can see how class discussions went down. I liked the yoteachapp and will have to check out the virtual bulletin board because Lord knows I need help keeping all of my ideas organized.
Giving the student a chance for them to piece the information together and figure out a problem on their own allows them to have a learning moment. These moments are crucial and important for students to have. They give the students confidence when they can figure problems out on their own.
