Bloom's Taxonomy

Bloom's Taxonomy encourages high- order thinking in students. It is broken up into 6 different sections: knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.

 Knowledge is defines as remembering previous information. Comprehension is understanding the meaning of informational material. Application is applying previously learned information in new and concrete situations to solve problems. Analysis is the break down of informational materials into component parts. Synthesis is creating or divergent applying prior knowledge and skill to make new or something original. Evaluation is the judging the value of materials based on personal opinion that results in a end product that has a given purpose.

    Kayla,

    ALL THREE OF US CHOSE THE SAME MODEL. I don't even know what to comment because we are all clearly on the same page!! Haha. I chose this model because it is simple and clearly broken down. Its easy to understand and I have a better understanding of the levels when I look at this wheel versus the pyramid. Again, great job!

    Kayla,
    As Kylie pointed out, we three did the same model. Great minds think alike! I agree that this is more helpful than the pyramid. While reading Andrew's I had an idea. What if you printed these and laminated them. You could then have students color in that portion of the wheel to show partial or total mastery! It could help students better understand where they are and where they will end up through the unit.It could also give us as the teachers an idea as we close the unit, where our students need more guidance. Great job!

    I love the wheel style you used and how it gives different verbs and uses for each of the levels of Blooms Taxonomy. I used the pyramid to show that each of these levels are built on one another. You need to have the level below to get to a higher level of learning. It shows the steps necessary to reach the pinnacle in creation of a new work. Your model is much more useful in showing how the taxonomy can be used and would be a lovely addition to any classroom or teachers notes.

     The Madeline Hunter lesson plan is a seven parts, that include objectives, standards, anticipatory set, teaching [input, modeling, and check for understanding], guided practice, closure, and independent practice. I find this plan easy to follow because it breaks it down into simple steps. There are several things I find difficult with this lesson plan design. The first being research- based strategies because I need to get more comfortable using then in my lesson. The next being extension and modification because I find it difficult to come up with them without having knowledge of the education level of students.  I know that it just takes practice when writing lesson plans, so I'm excited to get better at it. That is why I love these courses because I get a chance to learn new things.

Fun Ways to Teach Vocabulary

http://theteachaholic.blogspot.com/2012/03/word-catchers.html The first fun way to teach vocabulary is to do something called the word catchers. Where the teacher asked the student if they have heard any word catchers for today. The student must tell the teacher when/where they hear/saw the word and give the word in the context in which they encountered it. When the student uses a current or past word they get a reward. This would be a great tool to use to get students really excited to learn different vocab words. As we all know learning Vocabulary can be very boring. The second fun way to teach vocabulary is to have students draw the words to help them learn it. Drawing really helps students visualize the words being taught and helps them with comprehension. I think it important that teachers let the students be creative with their drawings and have them make a funny picture because this will make the vocabulary more meaningful when they get to have a little bit of fun....
