Mini Presentations

After hearing everyone's mini presentations about how their unit plan went. I'm glad to hear that I wasn't the only one that difficulties with it. A lot of my classmates had problems with time management and organizing the lessons in the correct order. I would have never thought that thinking maps could be used as instructional strategies. The one person that stood out to me was Dakota when he mention not knowing the time of day the lesson being taught and how that would effect the his unit and the activities. I really like the power point that was used. I thought it was well put together power point. I really liked what Debbie said about starting early because the amount of time it takes. I have to say I spent weeks on it and I'm not completely happy with it. Everyone made some great point to tonight.

Teach Like a Champion

Considering  Teach Like a Champion,  what strategies are you likely to use in your own classroom and lessons? Teach Like a Champion has a lot of great strategies that is hard for me to choose from.  I really like Strategy 1, No Opt Out means that teachers don't accepts I don't know, but tells their student to give it a shot no matter if they don't know their answer. I like strategy 5, no Apologies because I feel a teacher shouldn't apologies for what they are teaching rather make the lesson more fun and engaging. I also like strategy 8, Post it because I think students should know the objectives of the day this can be done by just posting it to the board. These are some of my favorites but I like most of the strategies. I hoping that I could use almost all of them in my classroom and lesson. These just open up the possibilities for my classroom.

Graded Lesson Plans 3

This week we finished our third week of graded lesson plans Overall the group of 2 besides me  did great, I loved how engaging and fun theses lesson are. Abagail H was the first to go and her lesson was over the westward expansion. I really loved her objective and I thought it was a well written. I also love the fact game and I felt that it was a great way to keep the student engaged. Another thing I loved about your lesson was the journey journals and the questions you asked. Overall it was great lesson that I had hard time picking my favorite thing. Great Job! The second person that went was me and I did mine over K-math. Which I was nervous and when this happens I talk like 100 miles an hour. I really tried to remember to slow so I hope I did. This is my favorite lesson for the unit. The reason why I picked this standard was for a reason. I remember my first observation for 100. Many of her students still didn't know how to count and they were in fourth grade which made me s...

Graded Lesson Plans 2

This week in class we did the second week of lesson plans. Overall the group of 5 people did great, I loved how engaging and fun theses lesson are. Lindsay Holler did a lesson over my traits, which I really love the whole lesson in general. What stood out to me was her anticipatory set about the self portrait to introduce a lesson over trait. I have to stay I loved the three activities that she choose for her students to do. I feel that she is going to make sure her students will come away understanding trait. I also loved her modification and extension for her students because she still kept fun of them. Great Job! I wish I could in a class and learn about trait this way. I feel that the students will remember this one for years to come.  Andrew Elliot did his lesson over Trophic Cascade and I really love his lesson plan. My favorite part was the independent practice because if fun game that the students would get to play. I would love to play a game like this when I was in sch...

Graded Lesson Plans

Overall, I enjoyed each of the lesson plans that were discussed this week in class. I felt that each of them were great and I want to take these classes for the fun and engaging lesson. The first person that went was Rebecca.  I thought her lesson over fiction and the plot of the story was great. The first thing that stood out to me was the seesaw activity because it just sound fun and I believe that kids would enjoyed it. The second thing that stood out to me was allowing her students to use a book that they have read so meaning that each flow chart could be something different. I agree with Rebecca that the extension and modification for student this young can be difficult because i'm having trouble also. The next person that went was Rylee and  she had a lesson over the moon phases, which was so great. My favorite thing about this lesson was the Oreo cookie activity because this would keep the students engaged and I love little project like this for students. This help ...

The Three Different Kinds of Rubrics

This week in class we discussed three different types of rubrics that we could use for the rubric part of the unit plan. The first is holistic rubric, which is the most general kind. This rubric list three to five levels of performance and has broad descriptions that describe each level. One advantage of the holistic rubric is it is very easy on the teacher and creating one takes less time then the others. The biggest disadvantage is that it doesn't provide a targeted feedback to the students. This means that students are very unlikely to learn from the assignments.        The second is the analytic rubric, which breaks down the characteristics  into parts that defines which are strong and ones that could be place for improvement. The biggest advantage is that allows the student to get a better understanding on why they got a certain score. The first disadvantage is that it takes a very long time to create . The second is that most students will no...

Aha Moment & Educational Technology

My aha moment comes from my observation that I had with a student. I had a chance to work with student that is behind on both reading and math. The student and I were working together to review for a upcoming math test. I know that this students  was struggling with perimeter, area and composite figure. The student and I worked on a problem for finding area of a square and walked through the problem step by step. I did give this child a chance to figure out the answer. After he got the answer the teacher asked who had the answer. The student raised their hand, explained how he or she  got the answer, and got a chance to clip up. The smile on this child;s face and the funny dance that was done just brought joy to my heart. This kids aha moment made me have mine because I question if I'm going to be good teacher. In that small moment it brought me back to one if  reason why I wanted to become a teacher in the first place. The lesson that the class had on educational tech...

Engagement Strategies

Engagement strategies are important in classroom because these are activities or ways to keep students engaged in their lessons, providing motivation, and could increase the achievement of students.  The first strategy I find valuable is movement because this allows students a chance to get up and move around and get back on being focused when the lesson starts again. Sometimes if a students is siting for long period of time they stop paying attention to the  lesson and this way I would use movement in my classroom.  The second is play games with students because they are fun. I believe that teachers need to show students that learning is fun and this can happen by using this strategy. While I was observing the teacher used kahoot and just to see how excited the student got made me happy. With technology there are so many apps and websites that can used.  The brain science behind engagement  is that is causes certain brain chemical...

Unit Plan

The unit that I'm doing is kindergarten math -r ead and write numerals and represent a number of objects from 0 to 20. As of right now I have nothing locked down, but I have several ideas. The first is a number scavenger  hunt around the school or classroom. I really wanted them to go out and find numbers and objects out of school to make a connection why numbers are important  and are used in everyday  life. I'm not sure if that would work taking it home. I was going to have the students go around  find numbers and objects. The second is I might do math centers if that can be allowed. I would have students go to different math center that would make them have to different projects working the all the numbers. For example put a puzzle together  of a few numbers .  Let me know if you guys have any ideas that would be better. Working with  kindergarten students I want to create something fun for them.

Bloom's Taxonomy

Bloom's Taxonomy encourages high- order thinking in students. It is broken up into 6 different sections: k nowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. Knowledge is defines as remembering previous information. Comprehension is understanding the meaning of informational material. Application is applying previously learned information in new and concrete situations to solve problems. Analysis is the break down of informational materials into component parts. Synthesis is creating or divergent applying prior knowledge and skill to make new or something original. Evaluation is the judging the value of materials based on personal opinion that results in a end product that has a given purpose.     Work Cited  BLOOM’S TAXONOMY ACTION VERBS. (n.d.). Madeline Hunter Lesson Plan Design

The Madeline Hunter lesson plan is a seven parts, that include objectives, standards, anticipatory set, teaching [input, modeling, and check for understanding], guided practice, closure, and independent practice. I find this plan easy to follow because it breaks it down into simple steps. There are several things I find difficult with this lesson plan design. The first being research- based strategies because I need to get more comfortable using then in my lesson. The next being extension and modification because I find it difficult to come up with them without having knowledge of the education level of students.  I know that it just takes practice when writing lesson plans, so I'm excited to get better at it. That is why I love these courses because I get a chance to learn new things.

Unit of Instruction

Unit of Instruction is the framework of extended curriculum because they organize a variety  of experience, skills, knowledge , and assignments. This allows students to master many things. A unit is broken up in several   individual  lesson plans that breakdown skills into parts.  There are several different parts to a unit plan, which includes, b ig idea, c ontent standards & Objectives (direct instruction), es sential questions, k now, u nderstand,  Do (Skills),  Research-Based Instructional Strategies,  Materials/Resources, and  Multiple Assessments/Rubrics ( Formative &  Summative).  To be honest I'm not sure what I'm going to do well because I have little experience with making unit plans. I'm just hoping that I can learn from this class and make good unit plans and lesson plans. I believe that i'm going to have a hard time with many of the key parts because this is new to me and the only experience was with a professor...

ABCDs of writing objectives

Write a post about the ABCDs of writing objectives.   For fun (and practice) write an objective for your child, husband, room mate, etc., about something you wish they did a bit better.  Here is an objective I wrote for my husband:  Given the correct cleaning supplies, Bob will clean and polish the stove with 90% accuracy. A is for Audience B is for Behavior C is for Condition D is for Degree After watching the video how to flood towel correctly, My boyfriend will food towels properly with 90% accuracy.  I was very happy to learn about the ABCDs of writing objectives because this allowed me to have a better understand on how to properly do it. I'm still little worried about writing them because I feel that this is one of the most difficult things to do.
