Reflection

Overall on my lesson plan presentation, I felt that I covered all the required material in the PowerPoint. The only thing that I need to make sure that I make more clear next time is where I model the information for the students to have a better understanding of their learning objectives. I'm a very shy person so doing presentations are always difficult because I just want them to be over so this time I tried to make it point to talk more slowly and make sure that my classmates understood my lessons. One of my favorite lessons would have to be Laura's and the use of a runner. I have never seen a lesson plan that has used one and I'm glad I did because now I have a better understanding of how to incorporate one in a lesson in the future. The next presentation that I liked was Linsey and her lesson over opinion writing because it seemed really fun and engaging for students. The two choices of videos that she used were great because they where meaningful use of techno...

Fun Ways to Teach Vocabulary

http://theteachaholic.blogspot.com/2012/03/word-catchers.html The first fun way to teach vocabulary is to do something called the word catchers. Where the teacher asked the student if they have heard any word catchers for today. The student must tell the teacher when/where they hear/saw the word and give the word in the context in which they encountered it. When the student uses a current or past word they get a reward. This would be a great tool to use to get students really excited to learn different vocab words. As we all know learning Vocabulary can be very boring. The second fun way to teach vocabulary is to have students draw the words to help them learn it. Drawing really helps students visualize the words being taught and helps them with comprehension. I think it important that teachers let the students be creative with their drawings and have them make a funny picture because this will make the vocabulary more meaningful when they get to have a little bit of fun....

Word Walls

Word Walls are an important tool to use in the classroom because it provides students with a place where high-frequency words are displayed and easily seen to help students with different types of reading and writing activities. In lower elementary, most word walls are used to help students that are learning to read and write. In upper grades word walls and be used for concepts and topics that the students are learning about, for example, in Science class a teacher might have a word wall for words associated with the weather.  https://fun-a-day.com/word-walls-preschool-kindergarten/ I do plan on using a word wall in my classroom because I have seen them used in positive ways for the students. For example, in one of my host classrooms, the teacher would get excited causing the students too as well when she got to add another word to the wall. I also think word walls can be used at the beginning of the year to introduce the names of the students and the teacher, so they hav...

Mini Presentations

After hearing everyone's mini presentations about how their unit plan went. I'm glad to hear that I wasn't the only one that difficulties with it. A lot of my classmates had problems with time management and organizing the lessons in the correct order. I would have never thought that thinking maps could be used as instructional strategies. The one person that stood out to me was Dakota when he mention not knowing the time of day the lesson being taught and how that would effect the his unit and the activities. I really like the power point that was used. I thought it was well put together power point. I really liked what Debbie said about starting early because the amount of time it takes. I have to say I spent weeks on it and I'm not completely happy with it. Everyone made some great point to tonight.
